Self-Inspection Tips from Bed Bugs

Bed Bug Control

We have seen the rise of bed bug infestations in recent years and it is not a joke to carry these blood-sucking creatures at home. Getting rid of these bed bugs once it settled in our homes can be quite difficult. It will mostly require the need to call a pest control professional to finally get rid of them. Some homes may just even rely on their own do-it-yourself bed bug control, which would probably fail. However, there are ways to stop these bugs from even entering our home premises and start a long cycle of problems for homeowners.

The Travelling Bed Bug

Bed bugs are great travelers. They probably travel more than we do, and because their population and their habitat range have increased significantly. It is up to us to stop them from spreading further. So, how do you stop a great traveler from travelling?

Since these bugs will travel with the help of a person, it is your task to check on yourself before you even go back home.

Where are The Bed Bugs?

If you commonly travel or you are going on a vacation, it is necessary to check on the place you are staying. Inspect your room before settling in. Do not place your luggage on the floor or bed yet. Place it down on the bathroom first. Checking your hotel room may take time and you are probably tired from your trip. But doing this safety precaution before putting your luggage on the floor or bed will avoid further headaches down the road.

Ways to Help You Find These Bugs

Check your bed

This will include your search for tiny blood spots on the sheets or mattress. Inspect the mattress carefully and pay attention to the seams. Use a flashlight to search for them on the bed frame, foot boards, and under the bed.

Check the entire bedroom

Search for bed bugs in drawers, cabinets, electronics, narrow spaces and crevices. Check drapes and wall decoration since they may just be hiding there.

Once you are satisfied and your room is cleared, then you can enjoy the rest of your vacation. However, if these bugs are present in your room, asked the hotel if you could stay on a different floor and in a different room, away from the infestation.

Don’t Let Them Get You

These bed bugs know how to travel in style and they will let you carry them with you once you decide to go home. You may be carrying them on your suitcase or on your clothes. Before you enter your home, make sure to:

Inspect your luggage

Inspect everything. From the clothes that you wore during the trip and even those that you did not use.

Wash your clothes in hot water

Wash everything that you brought with you during your trip. Bed bugs cannot stand the heat so if you are going to wash your clothes in hot water, these bugs will die. Follow this immediately with drying all of your clothes on low heat for 20 to 30 minutes to effectively kill them.

Although some may think that this is hard work and you are just being paranoid for thinking that you have brought bed bugs with you. However, cases where they easily infest homes are getting higher by the day. You definitely do not want to be part of that great number. So before you go home from that great adventure you had, better inspect yourself from bed bugs.
