Ants enter our kitchens with the aim of getting the food they want without the care of us seeing them. They work relentlessly, even if we try to get rid of them. They will come back for more and may never leave our kitchens because of the free buffet we provide them.
How to Stop Ant Invasion
Make Sure that Your Kitchen is Always Clean
- Do not leave the kitchen dirty.
- Make sure that the kitchen is free from any leftovers before you even leave it.
- Wipe down all surfaces with vinegar so that it becomes disinfected.
- Remove sources of garbage.
- Garbage cans should always be shut tightly.
- Food containers should always be sealed.
- Rinse off containers and bottles before disposing them.
Seal their Entrances
While creating a clean kitchen, make sure to seal off all possible entrances. Ants are small creatures that can easily gain access to the slightest and smallest entry. Since these ants are too small to know where they are gaining entry, follow the lined of ants and see where they are entering and leaving. Seal all entrances that you can find with the use of a silicone caulk or a plaster.
To keep these ants from gaining entry, place barriers in areas where they are mostly seen. The use of ant chalk, cinnamon, citrus oil, baby powder, cayenne pepper, white vinegar and water, and the likes will help in deterring these ants from getting to their food source.
Bait or Spray Them
Spraying the ants that you see may help in deterring them for a while. However, spraying these ants do not provide a lasting effect because these ants may still come back after a day or two.
To effectively get rid of ants in the kitchen, prepare a great treat of bait for them. There are different bait solutions available in the market these days, which you can also use. Just place these liquid baits in areas where these ants are seen so that they can get the bait, and carry it home. Although these baits may take a week or two to take effect, but the result is always effective since you may notice the decrease of ants in the kitchen until the day that they will not come anymore.
