Dear Valued Client,
Thank you for entrusting Horizon Pest Control for managing Ant Infestations effectively. Below is a comprehensive overview of what you can expect—and why—after our ant service.
Understanding ANT COLONIES
Before outlining the treatment process, it is important to understand the biology and behavior of Ant Colonies:
- Ants are highly social insects with complex colony structures.
- THE QUEEN(S) governs the colony, reproduces, and delegates tasks.
- THE KING(S) assists the Queen(s) in expanding the population.
- WORKER ANTS handle foraging, defending, grooming, and caring for the brood.
- LARVAE act as the colony’s “stomach,” converting solid food into liquid nourishment for all members.
- REPRODUCTIVE ANTS (“SWARMERS”) are future queens and kings that mate and establish new colonies.
Service Approach
Our deep understanding of ant biology and communication informs our treatment strategy. Worker ants follow the Queen’s directives and rely heavily on pheromone trails to navigate and communicate.
Pesticide Selection
We use health-conscious, non-repellent materials, which differ significantly from many retail products that repel ants temporarily.
Our approach introduces non-repellents strategically into areas where workers travel. These materials act gradually, allowing ants to carry and spread them throughout the colony, leading to long-term control rather than temporary suppression.
Treatment Duration
- Please allow 2 to 3 weeks for the treatment to take full effect.
- Materials remain effective for 4 to 6 weeks.
- Even if only 10% of the colony encounters the active ingredient, full colony control is achievable.
Temporary Increase in Activity
It is normal to see a slight increase in ant activity during the first 4–9 days.
This occurs as the active ingredient disrupts ant behavior. As worker ants decline, the colony receives less food, leading to disorientation and eventual collapse.
Combining Treatments
In some situations, we may use repellent products alongside non-repellents to reduce visible ant activity in targeted areas. The goal is not to stop ant movement entirely but to keep them active in controlled areas where treatments are most effective.
Special Notes
- Certain species—such as Odorous House Ants and Pharaoh Ants—may require 4–6 weeks to achieve full control due to their multiple-queen structure.
- Please do not apply any products on your own, as this can interfere with treatment.
- Avoid cleaning treated areas to ensure optimal effectiveness.
- Our materials are health-conscious and designed specifically for pests with the biology of an insect, not mammals.
Post-Treatment Occasional Sighting
A few ant sightings in the days following treatment are normal.
Avoid reapplying products too soon, as this may cause buildup and reduced effectiveness.
Follow-up & Additional Services
If ant activity continues after 3 weeks, please contact us for a consultation or additional service.
