Before the Technicians Arrive for Your Fabric Pest Moth Intensive Treatment, Please Complete The Following Steps Where Possible & Applicable To Ensure the Best Possible Results:
1) Move Furniture & Vacuum Thoroughly
- Move furniture (where possible) approximately 12 inches away from the walls.
- Vacuum behind furniture thoroughly.
- We recommend discarding vacuum bags as soon as possible.
- Alternatively, place baking soda or diatomaceous earth* inside the vacuum bag to control insects picked up during cleaning. This allows continued use of the bag until it is full.
- For bagless vacuums, follow the same method.
*Diatomaceous Earth is an organic, multi-use product.
2) Remove Belongings From Carpeted Areas
- Remove as many belongings as possible from carpeted areas.
- Vacuum under area rugs.
- If possible, remove carpet stair runners and vacuum underneath them.
3) Prepare Closets and Clothing
- Clear out closets where applicable and move items to a non-service area.
- Wash all clothing in soap and hot water, or have delicate items professionally cleaned. This includes any fabric décor or taxidermy ornaments.
- IF PROFESSIONAL CLEANING IS NOT PRACTICAL: Visually inspect items thoroughly for pest activity
- IF ACTIVITY IS PRESENT: Brush or vacuum the items thoroughly.
- Place them in a sealed bag with mothballs for a minimum of 30 days.
- Follow label directions for the appropriate number of mothballs
4) Remove Curtains & Draperies
- Remove all curtains and draperies.
- Wash in soap and hot water, or have delicate fabrics professionally cleaned.
5) Crawl Space or Attic Preparation
- IF THE SERVICE INCLUDES A CRAWL SPACE OR ATTIC: Cover belongings with a tarp unless they are stored in bins.
- Position items away from the walls.
6) Launder Natural Fiber Items
- Any belongings made of natural fibers should be professionally laundered.
7) Bedding Preparation
- IF ACTIVITY IS FOUND NEAR BEDDING OR IF BEDDING CONTAINS NATURAL FIBERS:
- Strip the bed completely.
- Wash all linens in soap and hot water.
- Leave the bed undressed for service.
8) Tenant Preparation
- If service involves a tenant, please provide these instructions at least 72 hours before the scheduled service date, when possible.
9) During Service
- All people and pets must vacate during treatment.
- They may return 4 hours after the service is completed.
10) Ongoing Preventive Practice
- We recommend periodically vacuuming under couches, beds, and box springs as part of routine cleaning. This helps reduce the likelihood of carpet beetle or fabric pest re-introduction to your furniture.
