Dear Valued Client,
Thank you for entrusting Horizon Pest Control to address your Stinging Insect Concerns. Below is a comprehensive overview of what you can expect following your service.
Our Treatment Approach
For Stinging Insects, the most effective method is to Treat Directly Into the Nest whenever possible. This ensures the quickest resolution and maximizes impact on the colony.
How Treatment Works
Most bees and wasps are highly social, living within a caste system that allows us to use their natural behaviors to our advantage.
For Exposed Nests, we apply a dust material or a liquid residual non-repellent product:
- Colony members present at the nest typically die immediately following application.
- Field bees returning to the nest detect the dust and may initially avoid re-entry.
- Activity will temporarily increase and may look chaotic.
- Due to their loyalty to the hive, bees eventually re-enter the nest, pick up the material, and die.
- Most colonies are eliminated within 2–3 days, though some may resolve overnight.
Treating Inaccessible Nests
When nests are located inside wall voids or other inaccessible areas, non-repellent treatments are the preferred method.
Why Non-Repellents?
- Repellant products can drive large colonies deeper into a structure, worsening the situation.
- Non-repellents allow insects to move naturally through treated areas, carrying the material back to the colony.
- This leads to efficient, complete elimination through natural contact and interaction.
Solitary Bees & Wasps
Solitary bees and wasps behave differently from social species:
- Each nest must be treated individually.
- Loyalty to a nesting site may cause insects to re-enter the treated area as temperatures drop.
- Nesting sites vary:
o Holes chewed into wood
o Ground nests
o Nests attached to structures - For heavily populated ground nesting areas, a broader treatment approach may be used.
- Treatment timelines for solitary insects are similar to those for social species—typically
2–3 days for full effect.
Post-Treatment Expectations
- Please allow 2–3 days for the treatment to fully resolve the issue.
- Temporary increases in activity are normal and expected.
